On August 1, 2013 our beloved father, husband, and friend, Joseph P. Solomon Sr., in the presence of his loved ones, quietly departed this earth bound for his heavenly home.

Joseph Percy Solomon Sr. “Poke” was born on October 20, 1939 to the late Lawrence and Mercedes Solomon in Leroy, LA where his childhood was filled with fond family memories, friendships, and hard work. Transitioning into his adult life, Joseph became a lifelong resident of Kaplan where he attended St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. Joseph was united in holy matrimony on February 15, 1969 to Mary A. Williams Solomon, a dedicated homemaker, loving mother, and loyal wife of 44 years. To their union two children were born.

Joseph was a dedicated worker in the oilfield plant for many years until his retirement in 2000. He was a loyal member of the Junior Poor Boys Club, an avid fisherman who also enjoyed sports, old western movies, court television, and of course, zydeco dancing.

He leaves behind to cherish loving memories, his wife, Mary A. Williams; one son, Joseph P. Solomon, Jr.; one daughter, Brooke Solomon Harvey; two grand-daughters, Samantha Solomon, born to Joseph and his wife, Christina of Lafayette and Briyana Harvey, born to Brooke and her husband, Brian Harvey, Jr.; one grand-son, Brycen Harvey, also born to Brooke and Brian of Lake Charles; two sisters, Annie Mae and Jeane Solomon, both of Houston, TX; two brothers, Oris Solomon of Kaplan and Leroy Solomon and his wife, Charlene of Houston, TX; sister-in-law, Ann K. Williams; his mother-in-law; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mercedes and Lawrence Solomon; three sisters, Bertha Minnick, Lucille Solomon, and Rebecca Levy; and four brothers, Frances, George, Joseph, and Mitchell Solomon.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 8 a.m. until until 10:45 a.m. when the procession departs for the church. A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m.

The Solomon family would like to express their sincere thanks to Dr. Deborah Johnson and the staff at the Cancer Center of Acadiana and Lafayette General Medical Center. The family appreciates every measure of care that has been provided throughout the years.
