GUEYDAN—After a courageous, three-year battle with ALS, Kendall Keith Saltzman, 56, died during the early morning hours of August 6, 2013, at his home surrounded by family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, August 8, 2013 at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Gueydan. He will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Lafayette with Reverend Jason Vidrine officiating the services.

A lifelong resident of Gueydan, Kendall was born on May 5, 1957 to Mervis and Wilda Saltzman. He was a hardworking, fifth generation rice farmer who began farming with his father at the age of 18 through his retirement in 2011.

His interests included hunting, camping, building handmade duck calls, watching football, traveling with his wife, and spending quality time with his beloved grandson. He was best known for his sense of humor and lighthearted manner.

Mr. Saltzman is survived by his wife, Delphine; their three sons, Kyle, and his wife, Candice of Scott, Keith of Lafayette, and Kevin and his wife, Allison of Rayne; grandson, Eli Peter of Rayne; grandmother, Elore Dronet of Kaplan; parents, Mervis and Wilda Saltzman of Gueydan; and sister, Sherron Greene and her husband, John of Kaplan.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lennis Guidry, Innes and Maria Saltzman.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth Street, on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Thursday, August 8, 2013 from 8 a.m. until the procession departs for the church.
