Lorraine B. Celestain

September 3, 1933 — August 2, 2013

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2013 at a 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Lorraine B. Celestain, age 79. She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Cedric Sonnier officiating the services.


Lorraine B. Celestain was born on September 3, 1933 in Kaplan, LA to the late Eli and Norma Bessard. On Friday, August 2, 2013 the Lord called her to her eternal home to join her parents, Eli and Norma, her husband, John B. Celestain, her sisters, Leola Scott, Eunice Jackson, and Barbara Jones, all of whom preceded her in death.


Lorraine was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law, cousin, and friend. She loved shopping, bingo, music, good food, and her most joyous moments occurred at family gatherings.


She leaves to honor and celebrate her life her six children: Vera Sampson of San Francisco, CA, Ursula J. Celestain of Kaplan, John B. “Jay” Celestain Jr. and his wife, Evette of Lafayette, Kim Peter Celestain and his wife, Pam of Beaumont, TX, Joseph Kerry Celestain of Beaumont, TX, and Sheila Marie Frazier of San Francisco, CA; two brothers, Joseph Ferry and his wife, Ruth of Beaumont, TX and Donald Peter Bessard and his wife, Iona of Kaplan; one sister, Lou Ethel Cooper and her husband, Earl of Vacaville, CA; brother-in-law, Joseph Will Celestain and his wife, Tessena of Gretna; two sisters-in-law, Viola Celestain of Lafayette and Helen Celestain of New Orleans; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.


The family wishes to express sincere thanks and appreciation to Kaplan Healthcare Center, St. Joseph Hospice of Lafayette, and the many relatives, friends, and acquaintances for the calls, visits, flowers, and prayers. Special thanks to Mrs. Leonteen Herbert (Aunt), Mrs. Denise Scott, Mrs. Ethel Thibeaux, Kendra Scott and the New Beginnings Choir for their support to Lorraine, Ursula, and family.


The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 10 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. when the procession will depart for church. A rosary will be prayed at 11 a.m.
