Memorial services will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at a 2:00 p.m.. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Theresa Catholic Church honoring the life of Velta Ponville Bodin, 85, who died May 19, 2008 at Eastridge Skilled Nursing Facility. She will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery with Reverend Kenneth Mayne officiating the services. Graveside services will be officiated by her nephew, Deacon Richard Picard. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Johnny Gaspard and Gregory Gaspard. The readings will be read by her nieces, Connie LeBlanc and Cathy Picard. Giftbearers will be her godchild, Barbara Romero and devoted friend, Betty Turner. Velta was a member of the Ladies Alter Society and member of the local Home Demonstration. She loved touring, flowers, ceramics and crocheting. She is survived by one daughter, Ellen Broussard and her husband David G. of Erath; two grandsons, Johnny Gaspard and his wife Noelle of Birmingham, AL and Gregory Gaspard and his wife Wendy of Austin, TX; one great grandson, Donovan Willis Gaspard of TX; and one sister, Annie Mae Smith of Sulphur. She was preceded in death by her parents, Camille Ponville and the former Edna Sellers; one brother, Minos Ponville, Sr.; and one niece, Alicia Wetzel. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Simone Babineaux and the staff of La. Hospice and Palliative Care. Also a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Eastridge Skilled Nursing Facility. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home, 209 South St. Charles, Abbeville, Wednesday, May 21st from 8:00 a.m. until time of services. A rosary will be prayed at 10:30 a.m. with services to follow.
