Guion Hugh Kleinpeter

Abbeville— A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church honoring the life of Guion Hugh Kleinpeter who died January 11, 2014 in Abbeville, La. at the age of 74. The family requests visiting hours be observed at St. Paul's Episcopal Church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service with the Reverend James Benbrook officiating the services. Interment will follow at St. PaulCemetery.

Guion was born in New Orleans, La. on May 7, 1939. He graduated from Isidore Newman School in 1956 and earned a B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Tulsa in 1961 where he was also a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He worked for Union Oil Company of California (UNOCAL) from the time of his graduation until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, American Petroleum Institute, Houma Kiwanis Club and the United Way of South Louisiana where he was Chairman in 1987. In Abbeville, he served on the board of Christians In Action, enjoyed working with the local food bank and was a parishioner of St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

Guion enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. In his later years, he enjoyed being with his grandchildren in Perry.

He is survived by his wife, Linda, of 49 years; son, Guion Hugh Kleinpeter, Jr.; daughter, Ann Kleinpeter Cook (Guy); grandchildren, Adair, Lynton and Henry Cook; sister, Margaret "Peggy" Stanton (Tom); stepbrothers, Tom Lay (Sheila), and William Lay; stepsister, Tony Lay Thurman; and his extended supportive family.

Guion was preceded in death by his parents, Elwell Lawes Kleinpeter and Adair Kleinpeter Lay; stepfather, Henry Lay; and nephew, Thomas Lawes Stanton.

Guion will be greatly missed by his family, those who knew him and all of his lifelong friends. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in his name to The Marfans Foundation, 22 Manhasset Avenue, Port Washington, New York 11050, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, P.O.
