He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Reverend William C. Blanda officiating the services.
He was the owner of Cormier Electric Motor Shop for 40 years. He was also a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary Magdalen Church for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dulse Premeaux Cormier; four sons, Thomas J. Cormier and is wife Kim of Syracuse, UT, Robert Cormier and his wife Kathy of Abbeville, Darrell Cormier and his wife Jeannie of Abbeville and John Cormier of Abbeville; three daughters, Mary McCubbin and her husband Tim of Houma, Debra Frederick of Abbeville and Tammy Cormier of Broussard; a special family friend, David Prejean whom he thought of as his own child; twenty-one grandchildren and four step grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren; three brothers, Curley Cormier, John Cormier and Exie Cormier; three sisters, Anne Benoit, Irene Decou and Elva Mae Hernandez.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Joan Denise Cormier; grandson, Brett Joseph Broussard, son in law, Steve Frederick; his parents, Francois Cormier and the former Selvina Trahan; brothers, Asa Cormier, Willie Cormier and Alex Cormier; and sisters Marie Edmae Cormier, Jeannie Landry and Hortense St. Marie.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Monday, January 27, 2014 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Tuesday January 28, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
