James Harold Sellers

December 4, 1924 — July 12, 2008

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 14, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville for James Harold “Prof” Sellers, 83, who passed away peacefully Friday, July 11, 2008. Visitation will be held beginning at 9 am at the church until the time of services. Entombment will be in St. Paul Mausoleum.
Survivors include his 9 children, 8 daughters, Renee Dore and husband Raymond of New Iberia, Dr. Tina Marcantel and husband Peter of Meza, AZ, Annette Goglia and husband Richard of Fairfield CT, Josie Boudreaux and Husband Bobby of Prairieville, Susan Broussard and Monica Meche of Lafayette, Dr. Rachel Bordelon and husband Brian of Tomball, TX, Kathryn Naifeh and husband Jay of Memphis, TN and one son James Sellers and wife Lisa of Lafayette, 25 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, and three sisters, Ouida Broussard, Paula Guidry of Abbeville and Charlotte Meaux of Lafayette.
He was preceded in death by his devoted wife Jeanne P. Pavy, his parents J.N. Sellers and Stella Marie Theall Sellers, one brother George Sellers and two sisters Marie Sellers and Yvonne S. Bodin.
Harold was born in Abbeville and graduated from Mount Carmel. He graduated from S.L.I. in 1950 with a degree in Mathematics. He began his teaching career at Gueydan High then later taught at Abbeville High for many years until his retirement. He was known to many of his students and colleagues as “Prof”. After retirement he practiced real estate in Abbeville. He also served as a councilman on the Abbeville City Council. He was a member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church and served as Eucharistic minister for over 30 years. Harold was devoted to his Catholic faith, to his family and friends.
He received much fulfillment in spending time with his family. A loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, he will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Mount Carmel or Vermilion Catholic or hospice of Acadiana.
