Leo Saporito

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Leo Saporito, 86, who died Friday, March 28, 2014 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Johnathan Janise officiating the services. Readings will be done by Aimee Deshotels Kane and Natalie Deshotels Montgomery. Serving as pallbearers will be Henri Deshotels, J.B. Marceaux, Mark Piazza, Paul Saporito, Edward Piazza, and Todd Travasos. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Navarre and Rhodes Spedale.

Leo was a devoted son and brother. He was dedicated to the students he taught in the Vermilion Parish School system and the teachers he worked with as an English Supervisor for 43 years. Teaching English was a passion of his.

Leo finished high school at Kaplan High School in 1944 and then spent two years serving in the United States Army during WWII at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. He then went on to get his Bachelors degree in Education at SLI, now UL of Lafayette. Thereafter, he attended LSU at Baton Rouge and was awarded a Masters degree in Education. His post graduate work was later done at University of Colorado Boulder and the University of California at Berkley, California.

He is survived by his brother, Raymond Conway Saporito of Kaplan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Saporito formerly of New York, New York and the former Laura Clotiaux, a native of Kaplan.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Saturday, March 29, 2014 from 10 a.m. until services.

The family would like to thank his extremely devoted caregiver, Patricia Suby for her gentle and loving care of him these past few months. Many thanks and appreciation also go out to Hospice of Acadiana for their kind assistance and care.
