Leontine Romero Hebert

April 16, 1913 — April 21, 2014

Kaplan Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 24, 2014 at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Mission Chapel honoring the life of Leontine Romero Hebert , 101 , who died Monday , April 21, 2014 at her residence . She will be laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery with Reverend Cedric Sonnier officiating the services.


Ms. Hebert was born on April 16, 1913 to Joseph Romero and Marie Elpheda Broussard in the Springhill/Nunez Community. She was married to Lionel “Pla” Hebert in 1930 at the age of 17. She lived in Gueydan, LA after marriage, moving to Houston, TX and then San Francisco, CA where she worked in the Hospitality Industry at the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. After retirement she and her husband returned home to Louisiana, settling in Kaplan where she was active in her church and community. She was awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. award from the Diocese of Lafayette, Office for Black Catholic Ministries in 1991 for outstanding service to church and community. She enjoyed going to the casinos well into her last year of life.



She
is survived by her caregivers, niece and nephew, Valarie "Denise" and Lionel Scott of Kaplan; and their children, Roman Scott, Kendra Scott and her husband, Deon Williams, and Aja Scott all of Kaplan; her sister, Ellen "Fee" Simien of Oakland, CA; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends .



She
was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Romero and the former Marie Elpheda Broussard; her husband, Lionel "Pla" Hebert; three brothers, Robert Romero, Warren "Putee" Romero, and Lloyd Romero; and three sisters, Alice "Kai" Boudreaux, Norma Bessard Hebert, and Lydia Trahan .



The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan , 300 N. Eleazar Avenue , on Thursday, April 24, 2014 from 7 a.m. until the procession departs for church. A rosary will be prayed at 8:30 a.m.
