Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 22, 2014 at a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Joseph “Mickey” Lloyd Frith, 71, who died Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at his residence. He will be laid to rest at Harrington Cemetery with Reverend Cedric Sonnier officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Brent Frith, Clint Frith, Trent Frith, Blake Frith, Hunter Frith, Cory Frith, Scott Frith, and Jerrod Duhon. Readings will be done by Katie and Kelli Frith and serving as gift bearers will be Karli and Averi Frith.
Mickey was a 1960 graduate of E. Broussard High School. He attended University of Southwest Louisiana and McNeese State University. He established Mickey’s Sporting Goods, Mickey’s Drive Inn, ElCamino’s Mexican Restaurant, and was a co-owner of B’s Wild Wings. He proudly served as a Louisiana State Representative from 1995 to 2008 (District 47). Mickey served on the substance abuse prevention education team, served as a board member and president for Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital from 1981 to 1983. He donated his time as a volunteer coach for the Kaplan Minor League, Little League, and Kaplan Babe Ruth League. From 1964 to 1988, Mickey was a school teacher and assistant principal at E. Broussard High School and from 1988 to 1990 he served as principal for Maltrait Memorial Catholic School. He was a 4-H club leader for 25 years and was honored as the outstanding 4-H club leader in the state in 1988. He was a Boy Scout leader, volunteer coach for basketball, and coached for Vermilion parish football league.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Millie Gaspard Frith of Kaplan; three sons, Brent Frith and Arieal Gaspard of Kaplan, Clint Frith and his wife, Trisha of Kaplan, and Trent Frith and his wife, Katie of Abbeville; one sister, Diana "Dee" and her husband, Albert Lloyd Duhon, Jr. of Kaplan; and eight grandchidren, Blake, Cory, Scott, Hunter, Averi, Katie, Kelli, and Karli Frith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Frith, Sr. and the former Gelta Trahan.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Thursday, May 22, 2014 from 8 a.m. until the procession departs for the church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Community Hospice Care, his nurses, Sheryl Trahan and Regina, Dr. Kevin Hargrave, and the staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and staff of Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital.
