Joseph Sonnier

October 5, 1919 — July 11, 2008

Gueydan—Funeral services will be held Monday, July 14, 2008 at a 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Joseph Ivy Sonnier, 88, who died Friday, July 11, 2008 at Gueydan Memorial Guest Home.
He will be laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery with Reverend Mitchell Guidryofficiating the services. Serving as pallbearers were Howard Guillory, Darell Cormier, Maurice Benoit, Seth Benoit, Stanley Lafosse, and Jimmy Smith. Honorary pallbearer was Tanner Cormier.
He is survived by one son, Thomas J. Sonnier of Gueydan; one daughter, Roberta S. Broussard of Gueydan; one sister, Agnes Guillory of Abbeville; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ezia "Lapay" Sonnier; his parents, Theodore Sonnier and the former Azelite Lege; one sister, Yvonne S. Derrick; and three brothers, T.J. Sonnier, Deacon Adam Sonnier, and Reverend Theodore Alcide Sonnier.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth Street, on Sunday, July 13, 2008 from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.; Monday, July 14, from 8 a.m. until the procession departs for the church.
