Olga was born in New Iberia, Louisiana on February 20, 1926 to Willie and Marie (Romero) Dore and from the very start was the apple of her father's eye. Olga could never do anything wrong and her father spoiled her rotten. Olga loved to dance and was always doing so while doing chores for her mother. She often referred to herself as a butterfly and that's what butterflies did. They danced around all day long. Olga's other great love was children. Even at a very young age, she could be found caring for her two nephews, carrying them around, one on each hip. A natural born mother. It was because of her love of dancing that Olga met the love of her life Claude. Pop-pop spotted Mom-mom across the dance floor and fell instantly in love. Pop-pop went over to ask her to dance and mom- mom knew he was the one. Knew this at the tender age of 14.

They dated for two years before getting married on July 14, 1942. Pop-pop often jokes about how difficult it was trying to get a hotel room on their wedding night, him being 21 and mom-mom being only 16. They were married on a Monday and Pop-pop was shipped out to war that Friday. Upon returning from WWll, Pop-pop and Mom-mom set out to raising a family. Of their 66 years together, 11 children were born, seven sons and 4 daughters. She was an Army wife all her married life and followed her husband to different states before finally returning home to settle and retire in Abbeville. Her days were filled with caring for her family, which now included grandchildren and great grandchildren, painting and of course, bingo and casino. Frequently heard over the casino P A system was, "Miss Olga Landry, your bus is leaving".

Mom-mom considered her children and her family to be her greatest accomplishment in life and was so very, very proud of each and everyone of her children. Her fierce devotion and loyalty to her children and husband was very obvious especially if a negative word was spoken to Mom-mom against one of them. This 5ft 2in 100lb woman suddenly became a 7ft 5OOlbs goliath willing to fight you. She loved life and all that it had to offer. Her keen sense of humor and laughter was contagious. She would often break into song and do a little jig to lift your spirits if she felt you were feeling low and had the ability to make everyone laugh with her quick wit and nervous habits.

Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Retired Lt. Col. U.S. Army Claude J. Landry of Abbeville, Dolores Ancona and her husband Frank of Lafayette, James Landry and his wife Kathleen of Abbeville, Patrick Landry and his wife Berthe of Lamaque,New Brunswick, Canada, William Landry of Houston,
Tx, Thomas J. Landry and his wife Roxanne of Abbeville, Janet Guidry and her
husband Edwin of Kaplan, Loraine Loignon and her husband Charles of
Abbeville, Nanette Faul and her husband Doug of Abbeville, Lt. Col. U.S Air Force Brian Landry and his wife Jessica of Montgomery, AL, Troy Landry and his wife Shelley of Abbeville, 26 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, one sister Irene D. Hudson of Abbeville.

She is preceded in death by her son David P. Landry, her parents Willie and Marie Dore, her brothers Wilton and Wilson Dore, her sisters Edmae D. Harrington and Linda D. Blanchard.

In her last months, having always been a butterfly, she said she felt like her wings had been clipped. She bravely battled illness and was more concerned and worried about the people around her, more so than her own self. However, her zest for life clouded and finally dimmed out on August 9 , 2008. Our solace in this time of sadness is knowing "our butterfly" went home to her father and was given a new set of wings.

As a final thought, the entire family would like to express our sincere gratitude, appreciation and love to Hospice and Home Health Care of Erath for their compassionate and phenomenal support during Olga's final days.
