Pecan Island—Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Pecan Island United Methodist Church honoring the life of Verda Choate, 84, who died Thursday, July 10, 2014 at her residence. She will be laid to rest at Pecan Island Community Cemetery with Rev. Al Franks officiating the services.
She is survived by her three daughters, Peggy and her husband, Thomas Parker of Lafayette, Lillia Poillion of Lafayette, and Susan and her husband, Darrell Melancon of St. Martinville; two sisters, Gurthel Decuir of Abbeville and Wyona Broussard of Kaplan; two brothers, Nolan Vincent of Pecan Island and Stanley Vincent of Abbeville; seven grandchildren, Michael Parker, Diana Skinner, Will Poillion, Rebecca Poillion, Meagan Blanchard, Mitzi Navalance, and Justin Melancon; and seven great grandchildren, Griffin Skinner, Mia Skinner, Elijah Blanchard, Corly, Riley and Emily Navalance, and Alex Melancon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel Choate; one daughter, Elda Jeansonne; her parents, Lawrence Vincent and the former Eumaya Ditch; three sisters; and four brothers.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Pecan Island United Methodist Church, Highway 82 South, on Saturday, July 12, 2014 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.; Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 8 a.m. until services.
