Gueydan—Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 24, 2014 at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Dorothy Toups, 84, who died Monday, July 21, 2014 at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. She will be laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery with Reverend Corey Campeaux officiating the services.
Dorothy was the fifth child of eleven children. She graduated from Gueydan High School in 1947. After graduating from high school Dorothy attended Sacred Heart College in Grand Coteau and graduated in 1950. She was a teacher at St. Peter Catholic School for several years. Dorothy was a member of the Children of Mary, the Catholic Daughters of Americas, and the Ladies Alter Society.
She is survived by her husband, Ellis Toups SR. of Gueydan; three sons, Ellis “Jake” Toups JR. of Monroe, Michael Toups and his wife, Elizabeth Of Woodlands, TX, and Patrick Toups of Gueydan; three brothers, Charles Zaunbrecher of Gueydan, Ronnie Zaunbrecher of Lake Arthur, and Bill Zaunbrecher of Gueydan; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Zaunbrecher and the former Mary Klein; one sister, Mary LeBlanc; and five brothers, Phillip, Wilfred, Frederick, Julian, and Richard Zaunbrecher.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth Street, on Wednesday, July 23, 2014 from 2 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 8 a.m. until services.
