Humer Louis Miller

March 23, 1918 — July 26, 2014

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Church honoring the life of Humer Louis Miller, 96, who died Saturday, July 26, 2014.

He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Reverend Kenneth Mayne officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Eric Miller, Shawn Nolan, Arnold Cormier, Willien Broussard, Tyler Hargrave and Kelly Broussard. Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron Miller-Nolan, Matthew Donahey, Jonas, Lucas, Owen, Jude and Liam Broussard and Logan Pavao.

Mr. Miller entered the Army Air Corp on October 5, 1940 receiving campaign medals for La. Veteran's Honor Medal, Rhineland and Central Europe and the French Liberation Medal, spending most of his time in France. He achieved the rank of Tech. Sargent before separation in September 1945. Upon returning to Louisiana he enrolled at Southest Louisiana Institute, now ULL. Mr. Miller worked for Texaco as a bookkeeper for 34 1/2 years working in Henry and New Iberia retiring in 1982. At the age of 90 he took his first flight with the LA Honor Air to Washington, DC to visit the World War II Memorial with other veterans from Louisiana. He was a member of St. Therese of the Child Jesus Church where he served as an eucharistic minister.

He is survived by his two sons, Darrell Miller (Marie) of Groves, TX, and Charles Glenn Miller of Carencro; two step-daughters, Joanna S. Cormier (Arnold), and Annette S. Broussard (Willien); two grandchildren, Eric Miller (Brandy) and Amanda Miller (Shawn Nolan)of Groves, TX ; four step-grandchildren, Erica Hargrave (Lance) of Carencro, Erin Pavao (Marc) of Davie, FL, Kelly S. Broussard (Sandy) of Youngsville, and Kasey J. Broussard (D'Anna) of Madison, MS; great grandchildren, Tessah Miller, Aaron Miller-Nolan and Jada Miller of Groves, TX; step great grandchildren, Tyler and Lindsey Hargrave, Ana Jonas, Lucas, Owen, Jude, Liam Broussard, Cassie, Dalton, Jaycee Donahey, Logan and Olivia Pavao; step great great grandchild, Matthew Donahey; brothers-in-law, Leo (Kay) Landry and Ralph (Nora) Landry; and sisters-in-law, Gladys (Larris)Denais and Rita Toups.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delino Miller and the former Laurice Ardoin; first wife, Beatrice Landry Miller; and second wife, Elita Moore Simon Miller.

rs be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Wednesday, July 30, 2014 from 8:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. when the procession will depart for the church.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Evangeline Oaks Guest House for their care of Mr. Humer in his last months.
