Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Mission Chapel honoring the life of Lawrence Joseph Benoit, 89, who died Monday, August 4, 2014 at his residence in Kaplan surrounded by his family. He will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Matthew Barzare officiating the services.
Lawrence was born in Gueydan and was a longtime resident of Kaplan. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps who served our country in the Pacific War, a theatre of World War II. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Guidry-Hebert Post #3793 and the American Legion Arthur A. LeJeune Jr. and Noel J. Boudreaux Post #271. He retired as an inspector and consulting engineer with Domingue, Szabo & Associates, Inc.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mildred Cornor Benoit; two sons, James Vince Benoit and his wife, Nedia of Kaplan and Cedric Lawrence Benoit of Branson, Missouri; two daughters, Rebecca A. Benoit (Judy LeJeune) of Tucson, Arizona and Vida Marie Benoit Brough and her husband, Jim Brough of Clovis, California; one brother, Donald Benoit and his wife, Janice of Hartford, Connecticut; six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Antoine Benoit and the former Nancy Fontenot; sisters, Mary Meaux and Sarah Benoit; half-brothers, Eli and Clarence Benoit; and half-sister, Rose Hoffpauir.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 8 a.m. until the procession departs for the church.
The family would like to extend special thanks to his caregivers at Eastridge Nursing Center, Hospice of Acadiana, and Share Care USA.
