Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2008 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Catholic Church honoring the life of Louise Toups Primeaux, 93, who died Saturday, September 6, 2008 at Eastridge Assisted Living Center. She will be laid to rest at Bancker Cemetery with Fr. Joseph Stemmann officiating the services. She is survived by her son Carl Primeaux, Sr. and his life companion Rebecca Mills of Maurice; grandson, Carl J Primeaux, Jr. and wife Lisa of Abbeville; three great grandsons, Robert, Benjamin and Collin Primeaux all of Abbeville; and a sister, Jeanne Ramke of Henry. She was preceded in death by husband, Robert I. Primeaux; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Anna Landry Toups; sisters, Helen Gayneaux, Lydia Gee, Elda Laplace, Anna Brasseaux, Ella Hartman, Viola Meaux and Elvie Richard; brothers, Taylor, Louis and Hartwell Toups. Louise was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who lived for her family, especially her grandchild and great grandchildren. Louise was educated in Henry then at SLI (Southwestern Louisiana Institute- now ULL) then taught school in Kaplan in 1936 until moving to teach in Henry. Thirty five of her thirty eight years teaching were spent at Henry High School. In addition to teaching Louise upgraded the 4-H Club which became one of the best in Vermilion Parish. She taught many adult classes in the evenings, on her own time and was instrumental in initiating Home Demonstration meetings in her community. The choir at St. John in Henry is where she was an alto. In addition to being a choir member she was a member of PTA (parent-teacher association), Ladies Altar Society, and Louisiana Education Association. Once retired she was a member of the Retired Teachers Association in Vermilion Parish. She put on school plays or helped doing so even making many of the costumes and sets. Louise always spoke admiringly of her family, praising their accomplishments. She seemed to invariably encourage and find the good in people. The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Monday, September 8, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 5:00 p.m. by St. John’s Ladies Alter Socity and a second rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Tuesday, September 9, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. when the procession will depart for the church. In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to Hospice of Acadiana, 2600 Johnston St., Suite 200, Lafayette, LA 70503.
