Abbeville— A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, September 22 at 10: 00 a.m. at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church in Abbeville, Louisiana for Donald Craig Romero, 68, born on September 24, 1946 in Crowley, Louisiana. After a courageous fifteen year battle with multiple myeloma, Donald went home to be with Jesus on September 18, 2014, surrounded by his family and friends at his own residence in Abbeville.

Visitation will be held at Vincent’s Funeral Home in Abbeville on Sunday, September 21 from 3:00 P.M. to 9:00 p.m. and on Monday, September 22 from 8:00 a.m. until departure for Mass. The Rosary will be prayed on September 21 at 7:00 p.m.

Donald is survived by his loving wife of thirty-nine years, Cheryl LeMaire Romero. They were married on October 25, 1975 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kaplan, Louisiana.

Pall bearers are D. J. Harrington, John Romero, Paul Romero, Frank W. Summers II, Terry Boudreaux, and Kent Dold. Honorary Pall Bearers: Robert Romero, Brian Romero, Dwight Romero, Harold LeMaire and Delfred Harrington.

Donald is the son of Thomas Romero and Anne Bourque Romero of Midland, Louisiana. Both parents are deceased.
He is survived by his children, Sarah Romero Harrington and her husband, D.J. Harrington of Abbeville and Samuel Luke Romero and his wife, Lindsey Dold Romero, also of Abbeville. His six grandchildren will deeply miss their “Paw Paw” – Gabrielle Harrington, Grant Harrington, and Grace Harrington, Evangeline Romero, Anders Romero and Magdalene Romero.

Donald is also survived by five brothers and one sister: Robert Romero, John Romero, Dwight Romero, Paul Romero, Brian Romero and Susan Romero Sylvester and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother: Dorothy Romero Myers and Jeffrey Jude Romero.

Donald served in the U.S. Navy aboard an aircraft carrier in combat for four years during the Vietnam War. He was honored and respected by his fellow servicemen in the navy. He completed a two year Associates Degree as an Electronics Technician at McNeese State University. His career as an Electronics Technician began in the oilfield service industry. However, his longest career was at Riviana Foods in Abbeville for twenty years as Electronics Technician. Donald was a member of the American Legion and the Family Life Community. Donald was admired and loved in his workplace and at home for his mechanical giftedness and amazing work ethic. In his spiritual commitments to his family and his Catholic faith, Donald was an untiring servant. He and his wife, Cheryl, were founding members of Family Missions Company and the first Committee Heads of FMC’s Evangelistic Outreach.
