ABBEVILLE— Paul Traywick, age 90, passed away October 5, 2014, following a short illness due to cancer. Mr. Traywick was born in Steubenville, Oklahoma on September 8, 1924. Paul was the 3rd of six children of E.E. and Mymia Traywick. Paul's father was one of the original 27 employees of Phillips Petroleum and at the time of Paul's birth, was working at the Oklahoma plant. The family moved to Texas where Mr. Traywick served as the superintendent of the Gray, North and Lefors Phillips Petroleum plant. During Paul's senior year of high school he joined the military and served honorably in the South Pacific. He returned from the war, followed his father's footsteps and began a career with Phillips Petroleum. In 1964 he was transferred to Abbeville, Louisiana where he retired in 1984 as an engineer after working 40 years with the company. Paul was proud to work for a company that was so important to the American economy.
In 1954 Paul married Daphine Brooks who preceded him in death passing in March of 2014. The couple was the parents of three children, Allen, Debbie and Stephen. The couple enjoyed traveling with their children, gardening, boating, fishing and shrimping in the bayous and in the Gulf. They also enjoyed participating in the activities of their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The two were lifelong members of the Abbeville United Methodist Church and graciously volunteered their time in the service of the church for 30+ years. On any given day, one of them would be at the church helping others, serving as a board member, working in the kitchen, maintaining the grounds or preparing for the annual garage sale. Over the years, Paul and Daphine made many close friends within the church community and treasured the time spent in Sunday fellowship.
Paul Traywick was a person who sacrificed his own needs for others. He was committed to his family of origin and frequently returned to Texas for family events. In the most difficult of circumstances he never lost his sense of humor and that was true during the last months of his life. Travel was important to Paul and Daphine, although not completely fulfilled due to the responsibilities of caring for family. Never less, they traveled to Alaska, Canada and various destinations in the Great Northwest. The most memorable trip was to Israel in 2000 with an accompanying trip to Egypt. Paul was struck by the history of Israel as it related to his faith. Above all, Paul shaped his life by a scripture from Philippians 4:1, Stand fast in the Lord.
Paul is survived by his only living sibling, Paulette Gilbert, (Amarillo, Texas); his son, Allen Traywick and spouse, Sharlene (Boise, Idaho), and their daughter, Piper Traywick (Seattle, Washington). The second oldest child, Debbie Boudreaux, who is married to Ken (Kaplan, Louisiana) have four children who are, Tori the wife of Evans Bourque (Kaplan) and their daughter, Sawyer. Kristi, the second oldest and her husband, Josh Herring have three children who are Gerad, Austin and Jenna. Their third child, Kenny is currently working in Iraq while his girlfriend, Ashley Viator remains in Louisiana. The two children of Kenny are Grant Landry and Briannah Boudreaux. The fourth child of Debbie and Ken Boudreaux, Katelyn, passed away in 2004. Paul's youngest child, Stephen Traywick is also a resident of Abbeville.
