Joseph Wilson Gaspard

April 5, 1925 — October 11, 2008

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 13, 2008 at a 2:00 pm Mass of Christian Burial at St. Theresa Catholic Church honoring the life of Joseph W. Gaspard, 85, who died Saturday, October 11, 2008 at his residence in Abbeville.
He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Reverend Kenneth Mayne officiating the services.
He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Eugenie Blanchard Gaspard, of Abbeville; Two sons, Donald W. Gaspard and wife, Charlotte of Maurice and Paul Wayne Gaspard and wife, Yvonne of Abbeville; two daughters, Susan G. Vincent and husband, Laxey, Sr. of Abbeville and Barbara Ann G. Richardson and husband, Nathan of Abbeville; nine grandchildren, Laxey Vincent, Jr. and wife Tammy, Clinton Vincent and wife Holly, Brady Vincent, Brandon Gaspard, Jarod Gaspard, Donnelle Gaspard,Dawayne Gaspard, Nicol Thibodeaux and husband Robert and James C. Richardson and wife Brandi; 12 great grandchildren, Justin Goodwin, Cade Vincent, Peyton Vincent, , Jancee Vincent, Shelby Vincent, C.J. Vincent, TristanVincent, Taylor Thibodeaux, Lilly Thibodeaux, Scott Michael Richardson, Jacon Richardson and Blake Richardson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Severin Gaspard, Sr., his mother, Felecien Thibeaux Gaspard, three brothers, Francis Gaspard, Jules Foreman and Severin Gaspard, Jr., two sisters, Orelia Franks and Faye Bourque.
Pallbearers will be his 9 grandchildren, Laxey Vincent, Jr., Clinton Vincent, Brady Vincent, Brandon Gaspard, Jarod Gaspard, Donnelle Gaspard, Dawayne Gaspard, Nicol Thibodeaux and James C. Richardson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeffery Foreman, Carrol Langlinais, Wilfred Luquette, Ulyesse Bourque, and Robert Thibodeaux.
Mr. Gaspard , a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Coast Guard took part in the invasion of Normandy. Joseph was the recipient of numerous service medals while proudly serving his country. He was a member of V.F.W. Post # 4158 and the Cajun Culture Association.
The Vermilion Honor Guard will conduct the military services at the funeral home and the cemetery.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home, Abbeville, 209 South St. Charles St. on Sunday, October 12, 2008 from 8:30 am until 10:00 pm with a rosary to be prayed at 7:30 pm. Visitation will resume Monday, October 13, 2008 from 8:00 am until time of services.
