Dennis Rost

He will be laid to rest at Holy Rosary Cemetery in Kaplan. Reverend Greg Chauvin will officiate the services.

Mr. Rost was born on July 18, 1924, and considered Leroy, Louisiana, his hometown. He served the colors of his country as a sergeant in the United States Army. It was during his service that his only child, daughter Sandra Gay, was born to him and his beloved wife Lorena.

Following his discharge from armed service, Mr. Rost went to work for Rohm & Haas in 1953, moving his family to Pasadena, Texas. After 31 years of dedicated service, he retired and returned to the roots of his ancestry in Louisiana, taking up residence in Abbeville. It was in Abbeville that he lived until shortly before his death.

Mr. Rost is preceded in death by his wives, Lorena Marceaux Rost and Maudry Marceaux Rost; his parents, mother Felicie Hargrave Rost and father Eddie Rost; and sisters Vernis “Meon” Dubois and Jean Rost Bridgers.

Left to mourn Mr. Rost’s passing are his daughter Sandra Rost Edgar and her husband, Henry Dale Edgar of Beaumont, Texas and his wife of nine years, Lucy Andrepont Rost, of Abbeville, Louisiana. His surviving siblings are brother Claude Rost of Amite, Louisiana; sister Inez Rost Leonard of Pasadena, Texas; sister Willa Rost Peterson of Ruston, Louisiana; sister Zula Rost Graybeal of Winslow, Arizona; brother Herbert Rost of Kaplan, Louisiana; brother Alden Rost of Knoxville, Tennessee; sister Earline Rost Thomas of Boise, Idaho; brother Larry Rost of Lone Pine, California; sister Helen Rost Faulk of Ruston, Louisiana; and sister Deanna Rost Ford of West Monroe, Louisiana.

Also surviving are Mr. Rost’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren: grandson Derek Rost Edgar, his wife Stephanie, and their children, Trace and Emily, of Beaumont, Texas; granddaughter Brandy Edgar Nichols, her husband Jeff, and their children, Nash, Quaid, Bliss, and another great-grandchild to be born on Monday, October 27, all of Orange, Texas; and grandson Brandon Dale Edgar of Fort Huachuca, Arizona.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Thursday, October 23, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. until time of service.
