John was born and raised in Delcambre, LA. He was drafted in the Army in 1955 and stationed in San Francisco, California. During that time he met and married his wife, Germaine Broussard. After his discharge, they moved to Houma, La where he started his family, with the birth of his first son, and his oilfield career. They eventually moved to Patterson, LA where he became a manager for AMF Tuboscope. John and Germaine added two more children to their family and experienced the tragic loss of their oldest son. In 1980 they “moved back home" building a home on family property in Maurice where he lived until his death. During his more than 50 years in the oilfield, John worked for Wilson Supply, AMF Tuboscope, Patterson Rental Tools, Power Rig Rental Tools and Oilfield Rental Tools. After retirement he continued with his own company S & S Inspection and Completion Services. As a salesman he cooked for hundreds of people all over the world. He loved to entertain and clients became like family. He was an avid gardener and loved cooking and preserving his crops. He enjoyed raising and working cattle with help from his brother-in-law, Eddie Broussard, and his son-in-law, John Welch. John spoke to his 101 year old mother every day and loved sampling her homemade sweets. Some of his favorite times were when all of his grandchildren were together and they took turns riding with pop on his John Deere tractor.
