John David Broussard

JOHN DAVID BROUSSARD, 77, died at his home on October 22, 2008. He was born in Indian Bayou, La., to Alphonse and Eula David Broussard, February 11, 1931. He attended St. Joseph's Seminary in Covington, La., and pre-med at USL. In 1951 he
entered the U.S. Navy as a ~ Class Petty Officer and Hospital Corpsman. He served with the 3rd Marine Division ~ Regiment, 211d Battalion and as Sr. Corpsman of Fox Company. At his honorable discharge in 1954, he had earned the Good Conduct Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.

After Mr. Broussard graduated from the University of Houston School of Pharmacy in 1958, he returned to Erath, La., where he operated The Family Drugstore. In 1974 Mr. Broussard moved to Houston as a pharmacist with Walgreen's Drugstore where he
worked until his retirement in 1991. As a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, he served on the vestry and was involved in other ministries. He enjoyed citrus gardening, painting, lifestory writing, building a pirouge, fishing, serving on a Federal Grand Jury and story telling - particularly in the Cajun tradition of "Boudreaux
and Thibodeaux”.

Mr. Broussard is survived by his devoted wife of33 years, Evelyn Broussard; children: Debbie McCauly and Stephanie Broussard; step-children: Ferryl McClain, Christine Harrigan and Fabian Boyance; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. His
memory will be lovingly cherished by his family for the expression of devotion, wisdom and guidance he always provided for them.

Mr. Broussard will be honored with a celebration of his life Friday, October 24, 2008 at the Church of the Redeemer, 4411 Dallas, Houston 77023. The viewing is at 5:00 p.m.; the service at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church of
Redeemer, Episcopal, for the Neighborhood Children’s Outreach, or to the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center. Interment will be on Saturday at St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery in Abbeville, La.

There will be a viewing at Vincent Funeral Home on 209 S. St. Charles Street, Abbeville, La. On Saturday, October 25, 2008 from 2:00 to 4:00 with burial to follow. A reception will follow burial at the St. Theresa Catholic Church, 101 N. Leonard Street, Abbeville, La.
