Mattie Babineaux Moss

Mattie's final resting place will be at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery with her husband with Reverend Kenneth Mayne officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers are Chad and Darius Girouard, Enoch "Bob" Mire, Earl Chiasson Jr., James Dale Landry Sr. and James Dale Landry Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Hunter and Hayden Girouard. Readings by Janet DuBois and Cheryl "Kitty" LeBlanc. Gift bearers Holli and Ahni Mire and Kelly Bankston. Music by Francis Toups.
Mattie was a lifelong resident of Abbeville, La. and was loved by the community. She was always giving of her time to help others, kind and was a hard working sales clerk majority of her life. Her last employment was at Earl's Baby Land (for 25 years) where she finished her career at the age of 86. She loved to cook and did so every Sunday surrounded by family and friends.
Mattie was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 29 for 64 years, as well as a member of The Catholic Daughters of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church and devoted member of St. Theresa Church.
Aunt Mattie, as she was known by family and friends, is survived by her three grandchildren, Chad Girouard of Erath, Denise G. Mire and her husband Enoch "Bob" and Darius Girouard all of Abbeville; four great-grandchildren, whom she adored - Hunter and Hayden Girouard of Erath, and Holli and Ahni Mire of Abbeville; son-in-law, Daniel L. Girouard of Abbeville; nephew and godchild, James Dale Landry Sr. and his wife Beverly of Abbeville.
Mattie was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, Murphy J. Moss; one daughter, Charlotte M. Girouard; one sister and brother-in-law, Ida B. and Dominque Landry; uncle (whom was raised with her) and sister-in-law, Adam "Cap" and Myrtice Moss Toups; and her parents, Amede and Elita Babineaux.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Thursday, January 8, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Friday, January 9, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
