Abbeville— Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 2, 2015, at 12:00 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville honoring the life, wit, and wisdom of Claude Robert “Robbie” Putnam, 69, who died Wednesday, February 25, 2015. He will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery with Deacon Randy Hyde officiating. Pallbearers will be Donald Frederick, David Gooch, Everette “Tippy” Guidry, Kimball Marshall, Danny Richard, and Edward Villien. Honorary pallbearers will be Ellis Bordelon, Lloyd Campisi, Gerald Garber, Judge Byron Hebert, Eddie LeBlanc, Mike Sagrera, and Preston Summers.
A lifelong resident of Abbeville, Robbie graduated from Mount Carmel High School, earned both undergraduate and master’s degrees from USL, and a law degree from the LSU Law Center. He was a law clerk to Judge Bryon Hebert and, later, a mental health counselor with the State of Louisiana.
He is preceded in death by his father, Judge Richard J. Putnam, mother, Dorothea Gooch Putnam, and infant sister, Mary Doyle Putnam. Surviving siblings are his brother, Richard J. Putnam, Jr. and wife, Donna, of Abbeville; sister, Mary Stacy Putnam Dempsey and husband, Al, of Madisonville; and sister, Cynthia Putnam Cunningham and husband, Jim, of Lawton, Oklahoma. He is also survived by 10 nieces and nephews: Richard Putnam III, Laura Putnam, Jennifer Putnam, Harold Putnam, James Cunningham, Anne Cunningham Lerner, John Dempsey, Patrick Dempsey, Robert Cunningham, and William Cunningham.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home, 209 S. St. Charles Street, Abbeville, on Monday, March 2, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services.
