Wilton Joseph Richard

A funeral service for Wilton Joseph Richard, 91, of Abbeville, a retired Mississippi Delta farmer, will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville. He died Dec. 16, 2008, in Sulphur Springs, Texas. Burial will be in St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Scott, La. Vincent's Funeral Home, Abbeville has charge of arrangements.
He would have been 92 years old on Jan. 6, 2009.

For most of his life, Mr. Richard was a farmer. He grew rice and soybeans in south Louisiana and near Greenville, Miss. He later moved to Texas, to be near his daughter and his grandchildren.

Mr. Richard was the son of Louis Joseph Richard and Nydia Chiasson Richard and was the oldest of their 11 children. He was predeceased by his parents; an infant son, Ronnie Joseph Richard; and three sisters, Laura (Loyhipie) Cabrol of Ruleville, MS, Rosalie (Purvis “PeeWee”) Meaux and Joyce (Cliff) Falcon, both of Abbeville, La.

Mr. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Odile Hebert Richard; his children: Patrick Louis Richard, of Little Rock Ark., and Connie Marie (Joseph) Low, of Campbell, Texas; his sisters, Delta “Toot” (Amson) Corner of Lafayette, Rita (Raywood) Mouton of Cow Island, La., Nydia (Jay) Nunez of Erath, La., Florance “Jeanne” (Harold) Hebert of Scott, La., and Mary Richard of Abbeville, La.; and by his two brothers, Purvis Richard, of Greenville, Miss., and Delton “Tan” Richard of Texarkana, Texas. He is also leaves to cherish his memory, his five beloved grandchildren, his six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitors will be received at Vincent's Funeral Home Thursday from 10 a.m. until recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m.
He will be laid to rest at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Scott, La., where Mr. Richard's parents, relatives and infant son now rest in peace.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Carriage House Manor in Sulphur Springs, Texas, for the care that both Mr. and Mrs. Richard have received there.
