Elsie Trahan Leblanc

February 14, 1909 — January 16, 2009

Elise LeBlanc, widow of Jean Libbe LeBlanc, who passed away Friday, January 16, 2009 at Heritage Manor of Abbeville, only three weeks from her 100th birthday. She was adopted from a catholic orphanage in New Orleans, LA. Her adopted parents were Mr. and Mrs. Columbus Trahan of Abbeville.

In 1910 The Sisters of Charity from the New York Foundling Orphan Asylum placed Elsie, along with other children on a train, then known as The Orphan Train, bound for a Catholic Orphanage in New Orleans. After being placed in foster homes, she was finally legally adopted.

She is survived by her daughter in law, Lois Desormeaux LeBlanc of Abbeville; four grandchildren, Libby John LeBlanc and wife Cindy Duhon of Abbeville, Bill LeBlanc of Palm Desert, CA, Mitchell LeBlanc and wife Freda Vidos of Abbeville and Mary Kay Morgan and husband Tony of Abbeville.

Elsie also leaves behind seven great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Her great grandchildren are Libby Jeanne and Aimie Claire LeBlanc, Katie and Blake Morgan and Madison, Rhett and Isadora LeBlanc. Her great great granddaughter is Layla Grace Boudreaux.

Elsie was preceded in death by her adoptive parents, Mr. and Mrs. Columbus and Odalie Belair Trahan; husband, Jean Libbe LeBlanc; and her only son, Harris William “Libby” LeBlanc.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009 at St. Paul Cemetery with Reverend William C. Blanda officiating the services.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Jackie Theall and IBC Hospice for the excellent care they provided during her short illness. Memorial offering may be made in her name to IBC Hospice of Abbeville.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in her memory.
