Ruth Demeyer Villien

May 12, 1933 — June 18, 2015

ABBEVILLE — Ruth DeMeyer Villien of Abbeville, died June 18, 2015 after a lengthy struggle with blood cancer. She was a retired educator with extensive experience in California and Vermilion Parish. Ruth then volunteered at Abbeville General Hospital for over twenty years.

She was born during the Depression to a large, caring, farm family in Blythe, California. There she developed a no-nonsense worth ethic that served her well throughout her life.

Ruth was very justice-minded. She also had a love for pets, reading, and roses.

She is survived by her husband of forty-two years, Fred Villien; and by one brother, Raymond DeMeyer of Willows, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Basil DeMeyer and the former Lillian Mary Monnot; and siblings, Paul DeMeyer, Phillip DeMeyer, John DeMeyer, Therese DeMeyer, Louis DeMeyer, Thomas DeMeyer and Vincent DeMeyer.

Grateful thanks to the personnel with the Cancer Center of Acadiana at Abbeville. The team exhibited caring professionalism to Ruth for many years. Her end of life was professionally and compassionately provided by St. Joseph Hospice.
