Joseph Loify Woods

June 22, 1922 — February 8, 2009

Gueydan—Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at a 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Joseph Loify Woods, 86, who died Sunday, February 8, 2009 at American Legion Hospital.
He will be laid to rest at Gueydan Cemetery with Reverend Mitchell Guidry officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers were Peter Woods, Seth Woods, Garret Simon, Galen Simon, Leo Smith and Jace Melder.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Eldie Pego Woods of Gueydan; two sons, Farrell Woods and his wife Ina of Gueydan and Randy P. Woods and his wife Crissie of Gueydan; two daughters, Brenda and her husband Tommy Thibodeaux of Lafayette and Cheryl and her husband Phillip Thackston of Gueydan; one brother, Cliven Woods of Lafayette; ten grandchildren, Sonya LeJeune, Angela Thibodeaux, Galen Simon, Garret Simon, Philana Thackston, Byron Thackston, Peter Woods, Sara Simoneaux, Seth Woods and Tasa Woods; and 16 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Onezime Woods and the former Azilda Thibodeaux.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth Street, on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 from 12 p.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, February 11, from 8 a.m. until the procession departs for the church.
