James Howard Guidry

November 19, 1922 — August 23, 2015

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 25, 2015 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Church honoring the life of James Howard Guidry, 92, who died Sunday, August 23, 2015 at his residence.


He will be laid to rest at Bancker Cemetery with Father Brian Harrington officiating the services.


Howard was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 29. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Coast Guard.

He is survived by his son, James "Jim" Guidry and his wife Phyllis; daughter, Cynthia DeHart and her husband Jerry; sister, Pearl Parsons; four grandchildren, Tyler James Guidry and his wife Heather, Austin Lee Guidry, Michelle D. Reeves and her husband Martin and Jessica Lee DeHart; and two great grandchildren, Hilaree Claire Guidry and Noah Jackson Reeves.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Velta Lee Guidry; parents, Joseph Guidry and the former Catherine Kelly; brother, Joseph Karl Guidry; and sister, Doris Guidry Hollier Placette.


The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Monday, August 24, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Tuesday August 25, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. when the procession will depart for the church.

The family would like to thank Charlotte and Dr. Gregory Riggs, along with the staff of Southern Care Hospice for the care and the compassion they showed us in this difficult time.
