Davlon John Rost

Abbeville— Funeral services will be held Friday, October 30, 2015 at a 3:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, honoring the life of Davlon John Rost, 61, who died Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Rev. Louis J. Richard and Rev. Gilbert J. Dutel will officiate the services, with burial following at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Randy Lege, Blair Hebert, Gary Hebert, Alfred Adams, Jr., Timmy Lachaussee, Elroi Simon, Jeff Andrews, and Will Baker; honorary pallbearers include Ed Hulin, Julian Couvillon, Jude Dubois and Gerald Ognibene. Readers for the Mass are Ashley D. Hunter and Thad Batiste; Michelle L. Hebert and Ann Claire Williams will present the offertory gifts and altar servers are Holly Lachaussee and Abby Lachaussee.

Davlon graduated in 1972 from Kaplan High School where he returned as a teacher in 1995. Teaching mathematics at KHS led him to participate in several projects across the state. He was also an LVS Facilitator, a Louisiana Department of Education LVS Instructor, an Online Professional Development Facilitator for Algebra 1 and an adjunct mathematics instructor at South Louisiana Community College. In addition to his role in the classroom, "Coach D," as he was affectionately known, wore many hats at KHS. He coached girls’ and boys' basketball and girls' and boys' track and was the school's technology specialist. Outside of education, Davlon was a vocalist and lead guitarist of the musical group, PaperJam.
Davlon was a good friend, husband, father, grandfather, teacher and coach, and an amazing musician. He was also a sergeant in the Strategic Air Command, 8th Air Force Band serving from 1973-1977. He played saxophone and guitar and traveled throughout the U.S. performing for numerous command functions.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Connie Lege Rost; daughters, Kathryn, Bonni R. Parker and her husband, Freety; and son, Shohn and his wife, Courtney. “Poppa D” will be missed by his three grandchildren Zoe, Devin and Pete Parker. Davlon is also survived by his sister, Doris Rost.

Davlon was preceded in death by his parents, Claness Rost and Zoa Hebert Rost of Kaplan.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home – Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Thursday, October 29, 2015 from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m., with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Friday, October 30, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. until 2:45 p.m., when the procession will depart for church.
