Rosemary Dartez

September 9, 1939 — December 5, 2015

Abbeville – Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Rosemary Piazza Dartez, who died Saturday, December 5, 2015.

Father Louis Richard will be officiating the services.

Pallbearers will be Michael Denham, Jeff Bellamy, P. Dwayne David, Lenny Dartez, Darrin Dartez, and Scott Dartez.

Rosemary was born and reared in New Orleans. She graduated from Sacred Heart of Jesus High School and moved to the Lafayette area in the early 1970’s. Rosemary worked for the 15th Judicial District Judges during her professional career. She retired to become primary caregiver for her granddaughter Hollie, overseeing her day to day care and education. Rose was an active participant in her community serving on several committees which benefited both charitable and civic organizations. She enjoyed traveling extensively with her husband touring the United States and Canada, as well as many European countries.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Dan Dartez; daughter; Colleen Holden Denham and her husband, Michael of Lafayette; granddaughter, Hollie Millet; sister, Theresa Fassy, both of Lafayette; nephews, Frank and Lynn Fassy; her step-children, Damian Dartez and wife Amy, Duane Dartez and wife Liz, Deidre Dartez Arceneaux and husband Robbie, Darrin Dartez and wife Tobie, Jeff Bellamy and wife Dawn, Lonnie Bellamy Russell and husband Preston; and thirteen grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Piazza and the former Katherine Giordano; step-father, Lawrence Comiskey; Thomas Holden, the father of her daughter; and her late husband, Jerry Bellamy.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home – Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary being prayed by the Men of Mary at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, December 9, 2015 from 9 a.m. until the procession departs for the church.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Mt. Carmel Elementary School, 405 Park Avenue, Abbeville, LA 70510 or St. Mary Magdalen Church Choir, 300 Pere Megret Street, Abbeville, LA 70510.
