Kaplan—Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 21, 2015 at Mire Cemetery honoring the life of Michael James Bernard, 44, who died Friday, December 18, 2015. He was laid to rest at Mire Cemetery with Rev. Mark Miley officiating the services.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Blake Bernard of Kaplan; his three sons, Chanie Bernard of Kaplan, Blaine Easley of Lake Charles, and Dillion Stelly of Kaplan; one daughter, Bailey Bernard of Abbeville; his mother, Jeanette Bernard of Kaplan; three sisters, Elizabeth and her husband, Clifford Trahan of Cow Island, Claudette Bernard of Palestine, TX, and Debbie and her husband, Leon "Nootsie" Meyers of Kaplan; and one brother, Leonard Charles Bernard of California.

He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice "Champ" Bernard, Jr.
