Abbeville—A memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 7, 2016 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Joel Beauxis Stokes, 71, our beloved husband, father, and friend, peacefully went with God on Monday, January 4, 2016, in his home. Throughout his valiant battle with lung cancer he was surrounded by the strength and love of his family, friends, and faith. Throughout his life and adventures in the world, he never met a stranger and loved nothing more than gathering with his family.
Reverend Louis Richard will officiate the service.

He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Donna Whitley Stokes; three sons, Dannon Stokes and his wife Coleen of Abbeville, Patrick Stokes and his wife Virginia of Abbeville, and Shane Motty and his wife Nicole of Houston, TX; daughter, Ashley Stokes DeHart and her husband Sheldon of Abbeville; ten grandchildren, Ryan Stokes, Courtney Stokes Brown, Jonathan Stokes, Nathan Stokes, Ann-Marie Stokes, Leigh Stokes, Mackie Motty, McKenna Motty, Whitley DeHart and Hannah DeHart; three great grandchildren; and brother, Murrell Stokes and his wife Frannie of Lafayette.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elzie Monroe Stokes and the former Juanita Beauxis; and sister, Elizabeth Borel.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 8:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
