Morton Schwartz, born August 24, 1922 in Los Angeles, California. His parents, Arthur and Jenny Schwartz, had three children, Morton being the youngest.
Morton Schwartz was educated in Los Angeles, California and graduated from Belmont High School in the fall of 1940. He then entered the military when his National Guard Company was called into service. He saw service in the South Pacific and the European Theaters of Operation. Morton Schwartz was captured by the Germans at the Battle of the Bulge and was a prisoner for seven months.
Morton met his future wife, Bethel Rose Schriefer, daughter of Harry and Ella B. Schriefer of Perry, Louisiana in Los Angeles, California. Morton and Bethel (known as Lakey) returned to the Schriefer home and they were married October 13, 1946 by the Reverend Otis Spinks at the Abbeville Methodist Church in Abbeville. After a brief honeymoon to New Orleans, Louisiana, they returned to open and operate the Lady Lake Fashion Shop, across from the old Post Office on North State Street in Abbeville. They retired after 31 years in 1977. Morton Schwartz leaves behind his faithful and loved wife of 69 years.
