Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, February 1, 2016 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Edison Abshire, 82, who died Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. He will be laid to rest at Abshire Cemetery with Reverend Mark Miley officiating the services.

He is survived by his companion, Peggy Matthew of Kaplan; two sons, Jody Abshire and his wife, Julie of Kaplan and Kirk Abshire and his wife, Tammy of Gary, Texas; two daughters, Pamela and her husband, Charles Gaspard of Kaplan and Lori and her husband, David Tate of Opelousas; nine grandchildren, Jared and Derek Gaspard, Brandon Stone, Stevi Fitch, Josh Abshire, Jade LeBouef, and Seth, Mallory and Camille Tate; eleven great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mitha Simon Abshire; one son, Jack Anthony Abshire; one grandson, Matthew Dillon Abshire; one great grandson, Chase Gaspard; parents, Lustia Abshire and the former Gladys Trahan; and one sister, Yola Abshire.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Sunday, January 31, 2016 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Monday, February 1, from 8 a.m. until services.
