Daniel Wade Huval

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016 at 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Alphonse Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Daniel Wade Huval, 81, who died Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at his residence.
He will be laid to rest at St. Alphonse Cemetery with the Reverend Father Paul Broussard, Pastor of St. Leo IV Roman Catholic Church, officiating the services.

Pallbearers will include Wade’s son-in-law, Timothy Broussard, and grandsons Jared Broussard, Nicholas Broussard, Marcus Broussard, Christopher Broussard and Daniel L. Huval. The readings at holy mass will be given by granddaughter, Leah Broussard and the Gifts will be presented by granddaughters Britney and Annemarie Broussard.


Wade was born on October 1, 1934 in Maurice, Louisiana, the son of Sidney and Rita Huval. He was a graduate of Maurice High School, Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now the University of Louisiana at Lafayette) and McNeese State University and an educator in Vermilion Parish for 32 years. He was a classroom teacher for 15 years in the parish and the Principal at Seventh Ward Elementary for 17 years. He was also a Veteran of the United States Army.


Wade was a member of the Abbeville Lions Club for 47 years and served as President of the local chapter in 1979-1980 and 2005-2007. He also served as Secretary of the Louisiana Lions Club from 1986-1987. He was also the current President of the Vermilion Association for the Physically Handicapped and has been a member since its inception in 1986. Wade was also a 3rd degree Knight with the Abbeville Knights of Columbus.


Wade was married to Elda Trahan Huval for 57 years. He enjoyed an early retirement and they traveled around the United States, Canada and Mexico. They were avid campers belonging to several clubs over the years including the Les Amis, Crusin Cajuns, Boat Club and the Good Sam Club. In addition to camping, Wade loved to play cards with family and friends spending countless hours at the card table having fun and enjoying life.


He is survived by his wife Elda Trahan Huval; two sons, Ricky L. Huval, and Danny L. Huval and his wife Melissa Bergeron; daughter, Gwen H. Broussard and her husband, Timothy; grandchildren, Jared Broussard and his wife Falon, Nicholas Broussard, Leah Broussard, Britney Broussard, Marcus Broussard, Annemarie Broussard, Christopher Broussard, and Daniel L. Huval; step grandchildren, Brittany Getro, Michael Getro and his wife Reba, and April Getro; great-grandchildren, Hayden and Harlyn Huval, and Rhys Broussard; step great-granddaughter, Addison Duhon; brothers, Blaise Huval, Ray Huval and his wife Lona Candy Huval; sister, Faye Duke; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Rita Huval; and his beloved grandson, Brock Wade Huval.


The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Wednesday, February 10, 2016 from 5:00 pm until 8:30 pm with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 pm; Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 8:00 am until 9:30 am when the procession will depart for the church.
