Kaplan—Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 11, 2016 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Gerald J. “Hammy” Patin, 79, who died Thursday, April 7, 2016 at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital. Fr. Chester Arceneaux will be officiating the services.
Hammy was known as a quarter horse and thoroughbred owner and trainer. His horses raced at most tracks throughout the state of Louisiana. He owned and operated the national and recognized Ace Hunting Club and also co-owned Lafayette Concrete with Jerry Young. Hammy loved politics and was a proud Democrat. He was definitely a people person and everyone who knew him loved him. He was known as Big Daddy to his grandchildren. He will be missed by many.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Judy Bonin Patin; one son, Travis Delhomme and his wife, Melanie of Lafayette; one daughter, Cheryl Babineaux Patin Landry of Dallas, TX; one brother, Robert Patin and his wife, Kathleen of Lafayette; two sisters, Jeannel Patin and her husband, Dale Dupuis of Lafayette and Linda Patin Ferguson of Lafayette; two grandsons, William Gerard Landry, II and Ethan Duhon; seven granddaughters, Lizette L. Thompson and her husband, Robert, Gerryl L. Krilic and her husband, Dennis, Chantel C. Landry and her partner, Judy, Germaine L. Ruede and her husband, James, Victoria N. Landry, Kalei L. Caraway and her husband, Glenn, and Mia Johnson; 13 nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Henri, Jolie, and Bella.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonce Patin and the former Lilly Domingue; and his former spouse, Elsie Comeaux Patin.
Lectors will be Lizette L. Thompson, Curtis Roy, and Raymond Blanco. The vocalist will be Justin Patin. Charlotte Breaux, his Godchild, will do the readings. Sandra Prejean, his Godchild, and his grandson David Landry will bring the gifts.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Monday, April 11, 2016 from 9 a.m. until services.
