Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Monday, May 23, 2016 at a 1 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Lulda Abshire Monceaux, 96, who died Monday, May 16, 2016. She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Mark Miley officiating the services. Co-concelebrant will be Reverend David Broussard.
Lulda was born on January 23, 1920 in Kaplan to the late Untim and Delta Abshire. She taught Home Economics and Science for the Vermilion Parish School board for 30 years before retiring to travel with her husband and grandchildren.
She is survived by her sister, Myrtis Jane Abshire of Kaplan; her two children, Juanita and her husband, Warren Freeman of San Antonio, TX and Charles Monceaux of Kaplan; her grandchildren, Pam Matthews Pegg, Loire Matthews James, Kristie Monceaux Sonnier, Kyle Monceaux, Angie Perrin Istre, Shane Perrin, Donna Ebey, and Warren Freeman, Jr.; her great grandchildren, Joseph Moore, Amber Pegg, Kristopher Gonzales, Mela Sonnier, Laurel Pontiff, Olivia Camel, James Camel, Mallory LeMaire, Morgan LeMaire, Jason Gonzales, Crystal Kolton, and Michelle Lasiter; and her great-great grandchildren, McKenzye Moore, Alexis Lasiter, Katie Lasiter, and Conner Lasiter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Monceaux; her parents, Untim Abshire and the former Delta Herpin; one daughter-in-law, Mary Ruth Mouton; and three siblings, JM Abshire, Helen Faye Abshire, and Nelda Libersat.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 6 p.m.; Monday, May 23, 2016 from 8 a.m. until services.
