Carol Ann, affectionately known as C.A., was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and dear friend to so many. Born in Long Beach , CA , her family later moved to Shreveport, LA where she attended school and graduated from Fair Park High School. Following in the footsteps of her parents and the love they shared for teaching, she graduated from LA Tech University in Ruston, LA in elementary education. It was there she met the love of her life, Henri, whom she married in 1968 and later moved to Kaplan, LA to begin their life together.
For twenty years, she enjoyed teaching in the elementary school level. Even though she was not a native of Kaplan, she embraced the community and gave it her all. C.A never met a stranger, being the highlight of everyone’s day. She lovingly cared for everyone, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her infectious smile and laughter always filled every room she entered. She had a warm and caring spirit, and loved serving as the gracious host while entertaining family and friends. Loving and living life to the fullest, she was constantly planning the next trip or gathering. C.A. was the true southern lady and led the way for so many in life.
C.A.’s love spread like wild flowers to her family, friends and community. She touched the lives of so many with a profound and lasting impact. She was a role model, a mentor and an avid volunteer, practicing what she preached. She served on the Board of Directors of the Kaplan Food Bank and was a member of Chez Elles Women’s Club for 45 years, Kaplan Garden Club, Vermilion Parish Retired Teachers Association, Kaplan Museum Committee - Charter Member, and former member of Beta Sigma Phi Social Club, as well as a volunteer for many community events and organizational activities.
Above all else, she deeply loved and cherished Henri, Aimee, Natalie and Thomas and her extended family. According to anyone who knew C.A., she made the world a better place and made you want to be a better person. "A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place no one else can take."-- Cardinal Mermillod.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, O.H. "Henri" Deshotels of Abbeville; two daughters, Aimée D.
