Chandra Nell Broussard Trahan

Kaplan—Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 18, 2009 at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Chandra Nell Broussard Trahan, 42, who died Monday, June 15, 2009 at Lafayette General Medical Center. She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend David Broussard officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be John Perrin, Zachary Martin, Richard Dorrity, Mike Abshire, Shane Dubois and Raymond Alleman. Honorary pallbearers will be J.D. Villejoin, Mark “Ripple” LeMaire, Roland Thibodeaux, Calvin Guidry, Blake Miller and Ned Doucet.

In October of 1992, at the age of 26, Chandra was diagnosed with renal failure and began dialysis. She was on dialysis for three months and received a successful kidney transplant from her brother, Troy, in January of 1993.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to two dear family friends, Dr. Edward Etheredge and Dr. Frentz.

Chandra was a loving wife, mother, daughter, and sister who valued God and family above all. Chandra was a graduate of Maltrait Memorial Catholic School. In 1985, Chandra graduated from Kaplan High School. After attending U.S.L. and Nicholls State University, she graduated from McNeese State University with a masters degree in Educational Technology. She began her teaching career at Crowley Middle School and acquired many dear friends. After the birth of her daughter, Marley, she transferred to Kaplan Elementary and then to Rene Rost Middle School. Chandra cherished the closeness she had with her students and fellow teachers.

Chandra enjoyed shopping and cooking for family and friends. She always had a special place in her heart for their family dogs “her poley’s”. Chandra treasused every precious moment of time spent with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all.

She is survived by her loving husband of eighteen years, Mark Ben Trahan of Kaplan; one daughter, Marley Maddison Trahan of Kaplan; her mother, Carole W. Broussard of Kaplan; one brother, Troy Daniel Broussard and Darlene LaBry of Kaplan; maternal grandmother, Sybil Woodruff of Shreveport; her uncle, Dan Woodruff Jr. and aunt, Shannon Woodruff of Dallas, Texas; sister-in-law, June and her husband, John D. "Boo" Istre of Gueydan; two first cousins, Lizzie and Chad Woodruff; father-in-law, Dalfares Trahan; one niece, Shaina Broussard; one nephew, Kalen Broussard; and one great niece, Jadia Lacombe.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald John Broussard; paternal grandparents, Zita T. and her husband, Pershing Broussard; and maternal grandfather, Dan Woodruff.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Thursday, June 18, from 8 a.m. until 9:45 a.m when the procession will depart for the church.
