Cow Island—Funeral services will be held Friday, August 12, 2016 at an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anne Catholic Church honoring the life of Zula Mae Hebert, 88, who passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at her residence. She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend Matthew Barzare officiating the services. Serving as pallbearers will be Timothy Hebert, Corey Landry, Jacob Landry, Justin Landry, Tyler Hebert, and Blake McBride. Honorary pallbearer will be Chance Hebert.
Born August 14, 1927, she graduated from Kaplan High School in 1944. Zula was the beloved wife of Ewell J. Hebert of Cow Island for 70 years; a devoted mother of Ronald (Clara) Hebert of Cow Island, Vicky (Curtis) Landry of Perry, Steve (Lerdy) Hebert of Cow Island, and Mary Beth (Bryan) McBride of Crowley; 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren that were the delight of her life. She is also survived by her husband; and two sisters, Velta Gaspard and Mary Gaspard.
Zula's first love was God and the Catholic Church. She served as president of the Cow Island Ladies Altar Society for several terms, and was honored with the Raywood Mouton Service Award for her dedication. Her devotion to holy mass, the rosary, and the Devine Mercy Chaplet strengthened her greatly.
Zula loved her family and enjoyed providing for them. She was an excellent cook and always cooked meals for the men working in the fields. Her sewing skills provided admirable garments for her growing girls, bonnets and baby blankets for her grandchildren, and hemmed and adjusted many pants for her spouse, sons, and grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy H. Bernard; her parents, Harry Meaux and the former Edna Hebert; one sister, Rexine Guilbeaux; one brother, Clifford Meaux; and one grandson, Dwayne Hebert.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to Juanita Landry, Laura Stelly, Janie Meche, and the staff of Hospice of Acadiana for their compassionate care during their mother's illness.
In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to St. Anne Catholic Church or Hospice of Acadiana.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at St. Anne Catholic Church, 17315 Lionel Road, on Friday, August 12, 2016 from 9 a.m. until services with a rosary being prayed at 10:30 a.m.
