Richard Charles Cormier

GUEYDAN-Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 22, 2016 at a 2:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Richard Charles Cormier. Interment will follow at Gueydan Cemetery with Reverend Corey Campeaux officiating the services. Carrying Richard to his final resting place are Joseph LeBlanc Jr., John Boudreaux, Roderick Benoit, Scott Russo, Christopher LeBlanc, and Jason Meaux. Honorary Pallbearers are Earl Bordelon and Billy Portie. Reading of scriptures by Priscilla Breaux and Keisha Foreman and the offertory gift bearers are Ethan Hobbs and Jackson Hobbs.


Born November 2, 1954, a Gueydan businessman, real estate appraiser, draftsman, graduate of Midland High School, long time resident of Gueydan, and a native of Morse, Louisiana passed away on September 19, 2016 at the age of 61 after a battle with cancer. Richard was the owner of Richard Cormier Appraisal Services. He was a real estate appraiser for 31 years. He was a faithful member of St. Peter the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, a caring husband and father, an avid hunter, grower of black tomatoes (fighter of stink bugs), maker of homemade wine, and a jokester around his friends and family.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife of 41 years, Donna Meaux Cormier of Gueydan, LA; one daughter, Ashley Raye and her husband Hank Menard of Fayetteville, AR; step-granddaughter, Kennedy Menard; his parents, Matthew Cormier of Gueydan, LA and Euella Abshire Cormier of Morse, LA; one brother, Kenneth Lee Cormier and wife Jolene of Tuskahoma, OK; in addition to a host of family and friends.


He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clarence J. and Ethel Pierce Cormier and maternal grandparents, Theo and Celina Istre Abshire.


The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Gueydan, 311 Fourth St., on Thursday September 22, 2016 from 8:00 AM until the procession departs for the church. A rosary will be prayed at 11:00 AM.


The family wishes to thank all of the kind and compassionate staff from the Cancer Center of Acadiana, Oncologics, Inc. and Lamm Family Care Hospice. Special heartfelt thanks to Joseph LeBlanc Jr., lifelong friend and brother-in-law, for the unwavering care of Richard during his final days.
