Cathy Anne Rankin Grant

January 8, 1958 — September 23, 2016

ABBEVILLE-Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at a 3:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Cathy Grant, 58 years, who passed away peacefully at her residence on Friday, September 23, 2016. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery with Reverend Louis Richard officiating the services.

Cathy was born to Mr. and Mrs. Rankin on January 8th, 1958 in Spencerport, New York. The free spirit that she was, she graced Louisiana with her presence, which she quickly found to be her true home. A loving wife, mother, sister, and friend, Cathy had numerous devotions. She was first, a lover of all animals great and small. Secondly, she was an avid gardener. She enjoyed spending most of her days amongst her beautiful plants, or in the company of a good book. She also loved to travel, experience new things, and meet new people. Cathy was a light-hearted, compassionate person. But more importantly, she was a fighter that never once considered surrender. In 2013, Cathy was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer. Its metastication may have affected her body, but it could not touch her indomitable spirit. Her faith, strength and beauty will live on around her even in her untimely absence. She is loved and will forever be remembered and missed.

Mrs. Grant is survived by her beloved husband of 32 years, Mitchell V. Grant; her daughters, Madeline, Hannah, Gretchen, and Faith; her son, Eric; her brother, Steve Rankin of Spencerport, NY; her sisters, Kelly Chapin and Vicki Damuth; and last, but certainly not least, her loyal and loving companion, the daschund, Domino.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale Rankin and the former Delores Miller.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Monday, September 26, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 9:00 PM with a rosary prayed at 7:00 PM.
