Alvin B. Abshire

Alvin loved his family and was a devoted and loyal person. He enjoyed being around people and socializing. He greeted many friends with his free spirit and warm smile. Alvin loved cooking and loved to cook for others, especially barbeque. He loved music, being outdoors, bonfires, learning about nature and science, and his favorite was German chocolate cake. He was a simple man and always made sure that his wife, children, and extended family had everything they needed. His selfless personality and heart of gold will be missed by all who knew him. He loved the Lord and knew he would spend eternity with him. Alvin often quoted Corinthians 13:13 "and now these three remain: faith, hope, and love, and the greatest of these is love."
He is survived by his wife, Lana D. Abshire of Kaplan; two sons, Alvin B. Abshire, Jr. and his wife, Alyssa of Oakland, CA and Samuel Caleb Abshire of Kaplan; one daughter, Aimee and her husband, Gregory Vincent of Lafayette; four sisters, Barbara Abshire, Shirley Abshire, Linda Lormand, and Dorothy Abshire, all of Kaplan; and three brothers, Calvin Abshire of Forked Island, Minos Abshire of Lake Arthur, and David Abshire of Kaplan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James Bernard Abshire and the former Annie Mae Hargrave.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Ave., on Friday October 14, 2016 from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM; Saturday, October 15, 2016 from 9:00 AM until services.
