Darrell Wayne Pere

He will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery with Reverend Kenneth Mayne officiating the services.
As a youngster Darrell was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout. He attended Mt. Carmel and Abbeville High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. during the Vietnam Conflict. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant. From wounds received in Vietnam he received The Purple Heart and various medals. He has been a member of American Legion Post #29, Abbeville for 34 years.
After discharge from services he worked as a tool pusher for various oil companies in Bahrain, Egypt, Australia and Venezuela. He retired from the oilfield and at the start of his illness, a leg amputation from the result of a Brown Recluse Spider; he was employed as a Security Guard for Actel.
He is survived by his mother, Velta Theriot Hebert; stepfather, Clarence "B.B." Hebert; daughter, Wendy Pere Bergeron and husband, Kurtis of Lafayette; three grandchildren, Brandon, Chance and Kyra; his companion, Angelique Broussard; step brother, Robert Darrell Hebert and wife, Katina; step niece and nephew, Stephanie and Nathan Hebert.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Nicaise and Anise Luquette Theriot; paternal grandparents, Marion Pere, Sr. and Naomie Guidry Pere and a godchild, Cody Hebert.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Thursday, August 6, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Friday, August 7, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
