Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Monday, August 10, 2009 at a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Church honoring the life of Raymond Joseph Durr, 79, who died Friday, August 7, 2009 at his residence.
He will be laid to rest at St. Paul Cemetery with Reverend Kenneth Mayne officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Randy P. Picard, Seth Picard, Rainey Schexnider, Allen Schexnider, Daniel Durr and Dickie Durr. Honorable pallbearers will be Chris Schexnider, Dustin Schexnider, Wes Schexnider and Travis Graves.
Raymond was a long time active member in American Legion Post #29, having served as First Vice Commander for many years. He served in the U.S. Army for three years during the late 1940's. He was the owner and operator of Durr's Barber Shop retiring after 48 years.
He is survived by his loving companion, Mildred Schexnider of Kaplan; one son, Chad Durr of Lafayette; one daughter, Sandra D. Picard and husband Randy of Lafayette; grandchildren, Seth Picard, Paige Picard, Darian Durr, Connor Durr and Matthew Durr all of Lafayette; great grandchild, Aubree Picard; one brother, Floyd Durr of Dallas, TX; and one sister, Mary Mavis D. Broussard of Abbeville.
He was preceded in death by parents, Ivy Durr and the former Lezima Guidry; first wife, Mary Ann Delcambre Durr; and siblings, Raywood Durr, Gloria Hebert and Lois Guidry.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Sunday, August 9, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Monday, August 10, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. until time of services
