Ardly Joseph Hebert M.D., 89, passed away peacefully at his residence in Abbeville on September 8, 2009. He was born December 17, 1919 in Theall, Louisiana.

A lifelong resident of Abbeville, Dr. Hebert will be remembered for his love of family, friends and his dedication to the residents of Vermilion Parish, where he practiced medicine as a family physician and surgeon for 57 years. During his long and distinguished career he earned the respect of many as he cared for the sick and indigent with heartfelt compassion. Dr. Hebert practiced medicine at the Abbeville Clinic, the Palms Hospital in Abbeville, Erath Memorial Hospital, Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital, and Abbeville General Hospital until he retired in 2007. He also served as Coroner of Vermilion Parish from 1972-2007. He was a member of the Vermilion Parish Medical Society, Louisiana State Medical Society and the American Medical Association. He served as President of AGH Medical Staff and as a member of the Board of Commissioners of the Vermilion Parish Hospital District No. 2. In 1994, Dr. Hebert was honored with a Lifetime Humanitarian Award for his service to the people of Vermilion Parish. Dr. Hebert will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Beatrice Dorman Hebert, of Abbeville; three sons, Robert Holt Hebert and his wife Caroline, David Paul Hebert and his wife Mary and Chris Hebert; two daughters Tessa Hebert and Serena Hebert Bailey and her husband Bret; 16 grandchildren, Sam Hebert, John Hebert, Tom Hebert, Chawn Hebert , Rachael Hebert Richard, Jill Hebert Lemaire, Greg Hebert, Leah Hebert, Jason Williamson, Amber Liebsch Young, Wesley Hebert, Lindsey Hebert, Hannah Hebert, Lauren Gooch, Miia Bailey and Emma Bailey; 18 great-grandchildren and his sisters, Ora Hebert Werner, Wava Hebert Budden and Amy Hebert Breaud.

He is preceded in death by his parents Ovey and Serena Hebert; sisters Anita Hebert Amy, Lydia Hebert Mouton and Beulah Hebert Jones; brothers Irby Hebert and Joseph Gordon Hebert; former wife Elaine Duclos Hebert and one daughter Jan Hebert Liebsch.

Father Chester Arceneaux of Our Lady of Wisdom Catholic Church will conduct the Mass of Christian burial at Vincent Funeral Home in Abbeville at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 12, 2009. Interment will be at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery in Abbeville. Visitation services will be held at Vincent’s Funeral Home in Abbeville from 6:00 PM – 8:30 PM on Friday September 11, 2009, with the recitation of the rosary at 7:30 PM. The family will reopen on Saturday, September 12, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.

Pallbearers will be Samuel Paul Hebert, John David Hebert, Thomas Frank Hebert, Jason Blake Williamson, Wesley Holt Hebert and Jason Michael Hebert. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Corbett LeBeouf, Dr. Perry Sudduth, Dr. Robert Jackson Young, Jr., Lawrence “Snow” Noel, Cecil Gremilion, Revis Sirmon and Marcus “Buddy” Broussard Jr.

The Family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Corbett LeBeouf, Nancy O’Dell and Yvette Leblanc of Hospice of Acadiana as well as Tanzie Morgan, Ms. Mona Mouton, Marlisha Rose and Edith Hodgson for their care and concern.
