Juanita Keith Rodgers

January 25, 1934 — June 18, 2017

Kaplan—Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at Kaplan Baptist Church honoring the life of Juanita Keith Rodgers, 83, who died Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Kaplan Healthcare Center.

The granddaughter of John Will and Suzie Wimberley Pyland, she was born to Jasper Hardy and Katy Faye Keith in the Cude, Winters, Wimberley, Pyland, Keith home on January 25, 1934. The oldest of five siblings, Juanita attended Wimberley Schools through tenth grade and graduated from Dripping Springs High School. In 1952, she married the love of her life, Glenn Edward Rodgers. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to deer hunt, and the twenty-one point buck she killed was displayed proudly in each home she occupied. She loved baseball, being a high school softball pitcher, and was always an enthusiastic Texas Rangers fan.

Juanita was a very honest and devoted person to anyone or anything she chose to do. She farmed, ranched, built and fished with her husband, Glenn. She loved to travel, traveling once to the Bahamas and twice to Germany. Even in her later years, she was always ready for a road trip to visit friends and family. She and Glenn loved to play 42 dominos with numerous couples in Wimberley until Glenn’s death in 1994. Soon after his death, Juanita moved to Abilene, TX, to live near her only sister, Sue, until 2011 when she moved to Louisiana to live with her son and his wife.

Juanita was a genuine Christian lady. She served on various committees at First Baptist Church, Wimberley, including the youth and nominating committees. She was also a faithful member of Potosi Baptist Church, Abilene, Texas and Kaplan Baptist Church, Kaplan, LA.

Juanita was a very loving person and very loyal to her family and friends. She, like her mother, hardly ever said anything unkind about anyone. She always proudly told anyone anywhere she was from– Wimberley, Texas. This tall, beautiful, blue-eyed lady will be greatly missed, temporarily. Those in Christ will see her big smile again in heaven.

She is survived by her son, Lee Edward Rodgers and his wife, Phyllis of Kaplan, LA. Nanny, as she was lovingly called, will be missed by her two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, Robin Rodgers Stack (Dan) and son, Mason of Sanford, NC and John Will Rodgers (Elizabeth) and sons, Parker and Henry of Arlington, TX. Nanny’s heart was big enough to include 3 step-grandsons, Jonathan, Jeffrey and Jordan Dupree and their wives; 13 children; 2 brothers, Glenn and Cecil Keith (Juany) of Wimberley; one aunt, Jean Bales of Kyle; 4 nephews; a niece; and numerous cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jerry Keith; sister, Sue Keith Brown; two nephews, Cade Keith and Dwayne Brown; and one niece, Lora Henslee.

The family wishes to thank her care givers in Kaplan, especially, Flo Mouton and Carolyn Gary, and the staff of Kaplan Health Care and Concepts of Care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wimberley Volunteer Fire Department or to the charity of your choice.
