Lloyd Albert Mitchell

July 11, 1930 — September 19, 2009

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at a 1:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Church honoring the life of Lloyd Albert Mitchell, 79, who died Saturday, September 19, 2009 at Abbeville General Hospital.

He will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery with Reverend Kenneth Mayne officiating the services. Pallbearers will be Brent Mitchell, Ronnie Mitchell, Jared Gremillion, Chad Meaux, Trent Mitchell and Nelson "Rock" Mitchell.

He is survived by two sons, Brent Mitchell of Abbeville, Ronnie Mitchell, Sandra Andrus of New Iberia; one daughter, Connie M. Gremillion and her husband Brian of Abbeville; four half brothers, David Mitchell of Baton Rouge, Nadley Mitchell and his wife, Mary of Livingston, Nelson “Rock” Mitchell and his wife Joy of Erath, and Robert Mitchell and his wife, Becky of Walker; two half sisters, Deanna Hairrell and her husband Bud of Prairieville, and Hilda Parker of Baton Rouge, LA; five grandchildren, Angelle Gremillion, Jared Gremillion, Rob Gremillion, Gabe Gremillion and Brittany Hopper; and three great grandchildren, Olivear Gremillion, Maddox Gremillion, and Ainsley Lange.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Hazel Guidry; his parents, Octa Mitchell and the former Neila Broussard, Aunt Paula Broussard, one stepmother, the former Thelma Landry; one brother, Curtis Mitchell, and one great grandchild, Coy James Mitchell.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m.; Wednesday, September 23, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.

Lloyd was a devoted Catholic whose family always came first. He was a kind gentle man who cared about his neighbors and friends.

He worked for Shell Oil Company for 30 years. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the VFW Post 4158, Abbeville, LA serving as Post Quarter Master for 17 years and a member of the American Legion Post 279, Erath, LA.
